Mamelodi Sundowns got back on the winning trail in the DSTV Premiership after seeing off Cape Town City 2-0 on Wednesday evening.
Kermit Erasmus went right back in the Sundowns line-up after missing the last encounter against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, as Hlompho Kekana started on the bench.
Masandawana raced into a ninth-minute lead from a shortly taken free-kick from the near side of the area as Lyle Lakay rolled the ball into his path before drilling into the bottom-corner.
The Brazilians almost doubled their advantage through a snap effort from close-range by Andile Jali before the midway stage, but the attempt was smothered by City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.
City had the ball in the back of the net from their very first opening in the 26th minute when Craig Martin headed home a cross from the left-side, but it was ruled out for offside.
Sundowns still bossed matters heading to the closing minutes of the first half, as Leeuwenburgh acrobatically beat away a half-volley in the area from Erasmus.
A substitution at the start of the second half saw the visitors introduced Khuliso Mudau for Namibian international striker Peter Shalulile.
Sundowns were slow out of the starting blocks, as the Citizens managed to find their rhythm on all fronts through Thabo Nodada, Surprise Ralani and Shane Roberts.
Masandawana still felt little pressure heading to the midway stage in the second half as Thapelo Morena instead put on the after-burner from the wing before getting a shot away from a decent area.
The Brazilians made the points safe seven minutes from fulltime when Keletso Makgalwa found space in the area to pick up Andile Jali’s pass to slot into the bottom-corner.
Jali was stretchered off right thereafter following a hamstring injury, as Mpho Makola cracked the upright from a free-kick late on leaving Masandawana to victory in the end.
