Five-star CT City pile more misery on Baroka

Premiership

Cape Town City moved up to fourth on the DStv Premiership standings with a 5-1 drubbing of Baroka FC on Sunday evening.

The Citizens made three changes from their last outing, as goalkeeper Darren Keet was handed his debut alongside recalls for Thabo Nodada and Mdantsane while Baroka opted to start Evidence Makgopa on the bench in favour of Richard Mbulu.

Kgoloko Thobejane's charges had a penalty awarded in their favour in just the third minute after Christopher Sekela was brought down in the box but Sekela's spot-kick was saved by Keet.

Baroka needed Makgopa midway through the first stanza after Mbulu picked up a knock, however Dan Ndlovu eventually gave the visitors the lead ten minutes before the halftime break with a low strike across Keet after going through on goal.

However, Bakgaga were reduced to ten men on the stroke of halftime after Mokhabi received a second yellow card for simulation after going down in the box.

City were quick to capitalise on their numerical advantage, as Mayo levelled matters five minutes from the break with a close-range strike after he was setup by Thamsanqa Mkhize.

The hosts remained on the front foot as Mayo won a penalty five minutes later, which allowed Mdantsane to give Eric Tinkler's men the lead with a strike into the bottom corner.

The Citizens had their tails up as Mdantsane made it 3-1 on the hour-mark and completed his brace with a header into the top corner.

However, Mdantsane did not have a chance to complete his hat-trick as he got a second booking minutes later against his former side, as both sides were down to 10 men.

Tinkler's men were running riot as Craig Martin added a fourth goal two minutes before time with a neat header from Terrence Mashego's pin-point cross.

Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke made things worse after conceding a penalty by bringing down Tashreeq Morris, who stepped up and converted to round off the scoring for the home side.
