Baroka FC made it two wins from two matches in the DSTV Premiership with a 3-1 win over Limpopo rivals Black Leopards on Tuesday evening.
Leopards gave Roderick Kabwe his debut and alongside Tebogo Makobela, while Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele remained unchanged from the win over Maritzburg United.
Bakgaga’s intentions were laid bare in the opening seconds when Richard Mbulu beat Leopards goalkeeper King Ndlovu to a floating ball from Cheslyn Jampies to head into an empty net.
Roggert Nyundu caused havoc inside the closing stages of the half when his cross-cum shot from the left-side, forced Mfanafuthi Shozi into a goal-line clearance.
Baroka allayed fears and doubled their lead 33 minutes in when Evidence Makgopa got between a cluster of bodies in the centre of the area to send Nhlanhla Mgaqa’s delivery into the far corner.
Lidoda Duvha’s woes were compounded in the final minute of the half after Mbulu dived onto a low cross from Thamsanqa Masiya to head into the bottom-corner for his brace.
Arohasina Andrianarimanana tried to revive the host minutes after halftime, but had his snap shot parried by Elvis Chipezeze with a second goal-line clearance from Shozi denying Kabwe.
Mbulu had a chance to bag a hat-trick from a loose pass in the opposite half 53 minutes gone, but blazed over the top.
Leopards brought the contest to life in the 60th minute as Shozi’s earlier clearances fell in vain when he helped a free-kick into the area past his own goalkeeper.
Matsimela Thoka’s side decided to shore up the contest minutes later when Goodman Mosele entered for Manuel Kambala.
Leopards finished the half with ten players in the last 20 minutes after Makobela got a straight red for a poor challenge.
This spurred the visitors on immediately as a through ball from the far side put Mbulu level with Ndlovu, whose point-blank save wasn’t enough to stop Bakgaga winning in the end.
