Chippa United ended their nine-game winless run in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC on Saturday evening.
Kurt Lentjies’ debut as the Chilli Boys coach saw him make two changes from their last outing in Veluyeke Zulu and Maloisane Mokhele, while Baroka dropped Manuel Kambala for Decide Chauke.
Chippa, who played without Hunt for the first time this season, were slow out of the starting blocks and nearly let the host to the breakthrough from a shot by Sekela Sithole.
The closely knit contest continued well until the last ten minutes of the half which then saw the Chilli Boys come alive to produce a few telling saves off Oscarine Masuluke.
Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele started the second period with a double substitution in the form of Kambala on for Breyzel Goldstone and Tshepo Mokhabi pulled out for Richard Mbulu.
The latter came very close to justify his introduction when he headed a delivery from Chauke inches past the net of Chippa goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali ten minutes into the restart.
Lentjies looked for fresh faces in the closing phase of the second exchanges and withdrew Thabiso Lebitso to put on Azola Matrose.
The initiative worked this as with 15 minutes to go Mogakolodi Ngele directed a free-kick from outside the area into the back of the net.
Bakgaga urgently probed for the equaliser in the closing periods, but the Chilli Boys survived to return to winning ways.
