AmaZulu ended a four-match winless run in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Baroka FC on Saturday evening.
Following his two-goal heroics against Stellenbosch FC in midweek, Evidence Makgopa continued up top for Baroka, while Usuthu gave Bonginkosi Ntuli his first start of the season.
Ntuli made his presence felt when he continued his scoring heroics from last season as he headed in the opener on 20 minutes following a cross from the left-side by Sbusiso Mabiliso.
Baroka remained on the back-foot three minutes later as a powerful strike from Lehlohonolo Majoro cannoned off the post before Elvis Chipezeze denied Luvuyo Memela from close-range.
The home side started to find openings following the slow start and nearly drew level through a smart attempt from Gerald Phiri Junior.
Usuthu targeted a strong finish before halftime with a few half-chances in the last third, but failed to make the most of the opportunities.
Siyethemba Sithebe almost handed Usuthu a second early in the second half from another delivery by Mabiliso, but the former fired wide by a mere inch of the intended target.
Sithebe was given another chance to put the visitors ahead towards the closing quarter following a close-range ball, but he saw his attempt go over the top.
A double substitution on the side of Usuthu on 63 minutes saw Ntuli withdrawn for Siphelele Mthembu and Memela recalled for Talent Chawapihwa.
As the match began to even out, Usuthu regained ascendancy and doubled the lead three minutes from time through Sphelele Magubane following a cross from Sithebe.
Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele went searching for a consolation in the final seconds, but Usuthu closed shop to see out the win.
