Royal AM overtake Chiefs with Usuthu draw

Premiership

AmaZulu squandered numerous chances to play to a goalless draw against Royal AM in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Zambian Augustine Mulenga was Usuthu’s only change from their clash with Maritzburg United, while Levy Mashiane and Kgotso Mofokeng were Royal AM’s changes.

The host managed to get off to a bright start following the opening minutes after Andre De Jong received a low pass into space, took two steps towards the area to bring a save off Hugo Nyame.

Usuthu were on the charge again minutes inside the half-hour mark with De Jong’s cross-cum attempt out on the right-side seeing Nyame in a spot of bother.

With the difficult wet conditions, AmaZulu were required to a substitution near halftime with Xola Mlambo stretchered off and Siyethemba Sithebe drafted in.

Royal AM started to see openings before the break none more off a free-kick outside the area from Lantshane Phalane that dragged over target from a promising position.

However, Usuthu continued to see the lion share of chances in the second half with Memela’s piercing shot forcing Nyame to a superb one-hand palm.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper was required to more reflexes nine minutes following the break and he stupendously met the call to smother De Jong from point-blank range.

Usuthu missed a big chance near the final exchanges after Thembela Sikhakhane rounded Nyame from a cross-field ball to have the goal at his mercy only to fire off target.

An evenly balanced period towards fulltime materialised with Victor Letsoalo close to the winner, but he went over as it finished goalless.
