Doc's camp opens up on Amakhosi return

Doctor Khumalo's business manager Jazzman Mahlakgane has addressed media reports linking the Amakhosi legend with Kaizer Chiefs' assistant coach position.

The Glamour Boys are currently in search of a head coach and an assistant following the sacking of Ernst Middendorp and Shaun Bartlett last week.

Khumalo, whose last job was as technical director at Baroka FC, has always been open to the idea of returning to his former club and has served as a number two coach before.

The last time Chiefs won silverware was when Khumalo was an assistant to Stuart Baxter. He also worked with Steve Komphela. In fact '16V' has been linked with a return to Naturena ever since Komphela's departure in August 2017.

"I only see it in the papers and in the social media but they haven't contacted me," Mahlakgane tells

"People can talk, you know how people are, they create things. But I'll let you know if there's anything positive."

Rumours have been rife that Gavin Hunt is the favourite to land the head coach job, despite his recent denials, with Adel Amrouche confirming to this website that he is in talks with Chiefs.

SuperSport United develoment coach Kwanele Kopo has also said Chiefs have not made contact with him amid reports both he and Khumalo could be set to assist Hunt next season.
