Radebe: Why Baxter could backfire

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker David Radebe has explained why he believes Stuart Baxter's anticipated return to the club may not be such a great thing.

Baxter is widely believed to be returning to Chiefs following the club's struggles to find a suitable candidate to meet the club's lofty expectations.

The likes of Steve Komphela, Giovanni Solinas, Ernst Middendorp and most recent Gavin Hunt have all fallen short in the past six seasons, with the club having ended the 2020/21 DStv Premiership campaign in eighth position.

The Briton, who won two league titles with Amakhosi in 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons, is expected to be unveiled before the end of this week.

However, Radebe feels the former Bafana Bafana mentor's 'homecoming' may not be as fruitful as he reminds supporters not to forget how he left Naturena back in 2015.

"If Stuart Baxter is available, they can take him, but the problem with coaches returning to clubs for the second time is that they come with issues already," Radebe tells KickOff.com.

"They don't come here wanting to win, they are bringing their own agenda saying, 'When I left so and so didn't treat me well. You may find that from the office, he already has a problem with someone.

"That's where the coaches make mistakes when they go back to Chiefs; they come with their own agenda and not to help the team win.

"Maybe Stuart Baxter won't have that problem but we know how he left. On his return, we don't know who is he going to release."
