Kaizer Chiefs management has been urged to visit the transfer market in January to ensure the club is given the best chance of winning the league.
Amakhosi are currently riding the crest of a wave as they comfortably sit on top of the Absa Premiership table with a 10-point lead.
But the recent embarrassing 2-1 loss to Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout semifinal seemed to prove that Ernst Middendorp's squad has numbers but not depth.
This is something that has created a concern for two of the club's former stars who believe the management needs to add at least five quality players in the upcoming transfer window to boost their chances of winning the league.
"They must look to improve in January and get more players and strengthen the squad," former left-back David Kannemeyer tells KickOff.com.
"It ain't over until the fat lady sings broer. There's still a long journey to win the league and I don't think that they can already brag and carry on despite the winning run that they've got.
"You know anything in football is possible, look what happened to Liverpool last season, and they slipped up. And now again Liverpool is on top with 10 points after last night. Football is very funny, you can't really predict until it's over.
"I think because Khama [Billiat] is struggling now as well I think they should get another player similar. You know you can't compare him with anyone else but someone similar if he is not firing, because he is playing for his club and country. I think they need to look for another one like him.
"Maybe strengthen at the back a little more as well. Get another centre-back. I think if they are going for the league then they should strengthen with maybe five players, and that means five top players. I can't give names, it's up to the coach what he needs at the moment."
Frank 'Disco' Makua, who also played for the Naturena-based side back in the day, concurs with Kannemeyer.
"I think they do [need to sign players], especially at the back, the two centre-back positions, l think those positions are key," Makua says.
"You can see when [Erick] Mathoho is not there they need someone who can come in and add that stability. If there's no stability between the two centre-backs we are going to have a problem.
"The game against Maritzburg you saw that without Mathoho we had some problems between [Daniel] Cardoso and [Njabulo] Blom. The understanding between the two players was not there. So I think it's very key.
"I don't know what is happening with [Lorenzo] Gordinho but we need to beef up that position. They can add one defender.
"And midfield also you see when [Willard] Katsande is not there... I don't think George [Maluleka] has that thing Katsande has. When he tries to win the ball most of the time he is making those unnecessary fouls.
"Also [Kearyn] Baccus, he can play, but he doesn't have that steel like Katsande."
