Dates of 6 Soweto derbies revealed

The dates for all six of the Soweto derbies that are set to take place in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season have been revealed.

Having made a sensational homecoming to the South African top-flight last season, Swallows FC's impressive form in the league reintroduced an enthralling dynamic to the DStv Premiership and brought with it the return of the "original" Soweto Derby alongside rivals Orlando Pirates.

That encounter, as well as the better-known Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates, and the remaining derby between Swallows and Amakhosi, are among the three biggest calendar events on the local fixture list, and the dates therefor have been revealed.

Pirates and Swallows will both be looking to claim bragging rights when they go head-to-head in the first Soweto Derby of the new campaign on 11 September at Orlando Stadium, with the reverse fixture scheduled for 20 March 2022. Both fixtures last season ended in a 1-1 draw.

That game is followed by the much-anticipated clash between Chiefs and Pirates at FNB Stadium on 6 November, before Swallows play host to the Amakhosi in Dobsonville towards the end of the month.

On 5 March, the Buccaneers will welcome Chiefs to Orlando Stadium before the Glamour Boys entertain Swallows in the final league derby of the season on 21 May, where the two sides will be looking to end the campaign on a high.
