Kaizer Chiefs are eager to move on from last season's tragedy and one player believes they will definitely be in the running again under coach Gavin Hunt.
Chiefs missed out on the Premiership title as they were held to a draw by Baroka on the final day of the 2019/20 season, allowing Mamelodi Sundowns to bag their third consecutive and 10th-overall league championship in the PSL era.
The club subsequently parted ways with coach Ernst Middendorp and assistant Shaun Bartlett, and have begun a new chapter with four-time league winner Gavin Hunt.
Defender Daniel Cardoso has since opened up on their return to training under the new regime, offering insight into what their pre-season preparations have been like.
"We have worked pretty hard and we are getting into the groove. We have done a lot of running, even though most was done with the ball," Cardoso told the club's website.
"The coach likes to joke, but he also makes very clear what he wants from all of us. He comes in with his own philosophy and it’s crucial that we, as players, buy into that. We need to hit the ground running.”
The defender also described last season's catastrophic final day of the season as a "bitter pill to swallow", but is eager to begin the new era and fight for title once again under Hunt.
"However, that’s now all water under the bridge," he added.
"We need to look forward – we have a new coach, who is very ambitious, and he has set new goals and targets. We will definitely be knocking on the door with Hunt in charge."
