Cardoso makes huge Chiefs admission

Kaizer Chiefs troubles this season has been largely pinned on underperforming players and one of their stars has admitted that the seniors are to blame.

Chiefs currently find themselves in ninth position on the DStv Premiership table and were eliminated from the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in embarrassing fashion.

They have struggled to string together more than three consecutive wins in 34 games thus far, and have come under continuous criticism from pundits and supporters alike.

Amakhosi defender Daniel Cardoso, however, has defended the impact of coach Gavin Hunt while admitting that the senior players have "failed" the team this season.

"Ja, it hasn't been too bad [working with Hunt]. The mentality after [being] 30 minutes away from winning the league, you can see it's affected a lot of our players," Cardoso said in a press briefing.

"But it's good to see the youngsters coming up and showing a bit of flair and pushing us seniors a bit – Njabulo Blom has been great, but you know the youngsters can't do it alone.

"I think, as seniors, we've failed. It hasn't been the best of seasons for us, you can see it, and I think we need to step up a bit more.

"We've had a couple of meetings as seniors, with the coach as well, and I mean the coach's philosophy is great, there's nothing to fault him about."
