Dan Dance: This is not a KFC

Premiership

TS Galaxy coach Dan Malesela has made it clear that the football business is not a KFC franchise as he explains the reality of their Highlands Park takeover.

Galaxy are set to campaign in the DStv Premiership in the coming season after purchasing the status of Highlands Park, who are now defunct.

The Mpumalanga-based outfit have subsequently rebranded the status to represent The Rockets, who are now in their third year of existence but already have a Nedbank Cup title to their name.

While many have denounced the trend of club selling statuses and subsequently being renamed and ceasing to exit, Malesela has hit back with a practical example of how things work.

"People must remember that this is not a franchise. We can’t be forced to be called Highlands Park. This is not KFC for an example," Malesela explained on the club's website.

"When you buy KFC, you are forced to continue with the name KFC. TS Galaxy is well known. It has competed in the CAF Confederation Cup. The club is known even outside the country.

"Let us say, we go back to CAF and we get to Madagascar and people start asking who are you, must we start afresh and explain who we are?"
