R45-mil price tag placed on Bucs target

One of Cape Town City's star players has been priced out of a potential move to Orlando Pirates after a huge price tag was stuck to his name.

In his first season in the PSL, in 2017/18, winger Craig Martin scored three goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens, with the Buccaneers having tracked the player's progress ever since.

The 27-year-old is now a regular contributor to City's best moves in the DStv Premiership, with one goal and two assists to his name this season.

"Pirates still want Craig hey, the interest has not died down," a member of the player's family informs KickOff.com.

After it was initially reported that City wanted R5-million for the speedy winger, in November 2019 it was indicated that the Cape Town club was looking for R8-million for his services.

But now Comitis says he will not accept less than R45-million for the player as he looks to ship him overseas.

"My friend, Craig Martin is two-and-a-half million euros, he's going to Europe," Comitis reveals.

"We're still working on it hey, you know it's not easy. We always look out for our players. We've got to manage the process because it's not only about doing a deal, it's also about keeping the performance here in line with our ambitions.

"At this stage I have no plans for that, at this stage my focus is at the end of the season. We need to finish as high as we can, after that we talk business."

Comitis also made it clear that the Soweto giants never approached him during pre-season regarding the player.

"No they haven't," he insists. "I don't want to lie, there's been no enquiries."
