'Cosmos will come back to the big league'

Former Jomo Cosmos player Alton Meiring has no doubts that Jomo Cosmos will soon return to the top-flight under charismatic Jomo Sono.

Despite a tough start to their GladAfrica Championship campaign, Meiring insists that Cosmos will come good in the rest of the season.

Cosmos are currently in a lowly 15th position in the second division standings with just one point from four matches played.

"You know I think everybody has upped their game," Meiring tells Kickoff.com as to why Cosmos have found it difficult to win promotion.

"When I was playing for Cosmos, and I joined them in the second division but we had a very strong team.

"Strong, strong players with PSL experience, so I think we had a good understanding. But the last time I was at Cosmos, it wasn't as strong as the time I was there with that group of players.

"What I can say is that now other teams also have former PSL players. So that brings experience to that league.

"Other teams have also followed what Cosmos has been doing. The league became stronger and it became more difficult for Cosmos. I think that's a good sign.

"Because I remember that year when I joined them, we lost just one game. So that's how strong we were.

"The current group now look like a lot of youngsters. Nowadays everybody talks about youngsters, but look where Cosmos are today."

Meiring also urged owner Jomo Sono to dip into the market to strengthen his squad.

"Jomo would sell one or two players to make money and kept the core of the team to bring it back. This season has become even worse now.

"There are so many players who don't have teams, he should go back and either persuade them, because he is Jomo you know, people believe in him."

"People want to be around a person like him. He needs to go back and see who is in the market.

"He should get some experienced players as players will always respond to Jomo.

"Cosmos will definitely come back to the big league one day, I'm sure."

Cosmos next visit new boys Venda Football Academy in a league clash at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
