Barker reveals major Benni hunch

Former Bafana Bafana head coach Clive Barker says there is no reason for SAFA to struggle in finding a new head coach to replace Molefi Ntseki.

Despite postponing their announcement of their new coach to Tuesday, the Association have still not managed to keep their promise of doing so after their first choice Carlos Queiroz bailed out on them.

Asked why he thought Safa was struggling to find a new coach, Barker said he believes it was just a matter of time before current AmaZulu FC mentor Benni McCarthy is announced as the next Bafana Bafana head coach.

“They've got all the upcoming coaches, there's no reason that they cannot pick a coach. I think they going to go with Benni McCarthy, and I think it will be a good choice,” Barker tells

“I think that's what will happen in the end. They are just waiting maybe for another six weeks to the tournament, because the league will be wrapping up then.

“I don't know, I just have a feeling. If I had a choice, I would have done that. I would have brought Pitso Mosimane or Benni. They are two of the most talented coaches at the moment.”

Asked for his thoughts on SAFA's first choice Carlos Queiroz, Barker said: “He would be an outsider. Whether he would be a right man for the job, that would be tested if he comes.”
