"It's a great honour for me to be amongst the top defenders this season, and to be seen in that light is huge especially at this period of my career," Daniels says.

"It all comes down to hard work, dedication and passion for the game which I still have, so I just feel like doing more. We've already won the MTN8 and we are in the top four. I'm just happy I can contribute to the team."

The former Ajax Cape Town man then selected his best defenders that he believes were having a good season before the league was forced into a break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"The other defenders I feel have done well this season, firstly the Maritzburg United youngster Rushine De Reuck, he's been outstanding this campaign," Daniels says.

"And we need to give lot of credit to Nazeer Allie for guiding him at the back.

"At Mamelodi Sundowns, Thapelo Morena was doing well. It's a pity about his injury but he had a good season. Also Mosa Lebusa raised his hand even though he hasn't been getting minutes lately.

"Daniel Cardoso at Kaizer Chiefs has been consistent this season. He made fewer mistakes at the back and he's been scoring a lot of goals, which is good for a defender."
