Chippa sign schoolboy to pro contract

Chippa United have sensationally awarded schoolboy Asanele Bonani a professional contract after his impressive displays with the MDC team last season.

Bonani, who is currently a Grade 11 learner at Masiphathisane Senior Secondary school has joined the Chilli Boys for pre-season training in Gqeberha in preparation for the new season.

Chippa finished last season in 14th position in the DStv Premiership standings with a tally of 29 points from 30 games.

Preparations for next season have begun under Kurt Lentjies, with Bonani likely to make his highly-anticipated debut in the DStv Premiership in the 2022/23 season.

The 17-year-old midfielder's representative, Eldon Smith has confirmed his client training with the Chippa United first-team.

"Yes, he signed a professional contract last month," Smith tells KickOff.

"He is training with the senior team now. He can play as a left-winger, right-winger and also as an attacking midfielder.

"He is adapting well, and hopefully he will do well with the senior team in the new season."

Chippa United are expected to sign Sergio Kammies and Azola Ntsabo from Cape Town All Stars ahead of the new season.

With outgoings, Veluyeke Zulu and Azola Matrose departed to AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates.
