Chippa, who entertained in a goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 on the weekend, were far less threatening in another barren stalemate with SuperSport last night.
Malesela feels the high-octane clash with the Brazilians three days earlier may have taken a toll on his charges.
'Dance' told SuperSport: "They had more chances, clear-cut chances. We had one shot. It was just moves that were promising but to no effect.
"These things happen, paricularly when you come from the type of game we played on Sunday. I'm not deeply surprised.
"I think we need to be very decisive when getting closer to the opponent's penalty area, because that can be the difference between us maybe getting a goal or being countered.
"We were playing against a team that is waiting to counter, so any mistake we make, they may get something out of it. That was evident here."
The Chilli Boys will battle Sundowns on Wednesday for a place in the MTN8 final, where Bidvest Wits are likely to be in waiting.
Wits enjoy a 3-0 aggregate lead heading into Saturday's last-four tie with Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium.
