The Mozambique international has had to fight toe-to-toe with Seedat for a starting position in the City line-up, with Benni McCarthy using the duo fairly evenly over the campaign. Dove has made 17 starts across all domestic competitions, and Seedat 18.
“Seedat has helped me a lot this season,” Dove tells KickOff.com. “In training we are competing against each other, but we have that relationship as left-backs which is quite good for both him and me because whoever has played has done really well. So it keeps me highly motivated and him as well.
“When he’s on the pitch, I keep looking out for him and there’s always something that I learn from him. I learn from all my mates, but especially from him as he plays in the same position as me. And we have that relationship that when he sees something that I am not doing well, and he thinks I can do better, he comes and tells me. And I do the same so it keeps the relationship between us cool. It keeps me motivated whenever I go to the pitch, that I can’t mess up because I know he is always there.”
Despite a strong start to the league season, which also saw them reach the final of the MTN8, the Citizens have somewhat unravelled at the back end of 2017/18, failing to win any of their last five encounters as they were dumped out of both the CAF Confederation and Nedbank Cups, while slipping down to sixth in the Absa Premiership standings.
The 23-year-old admits the drop has been disappointing, but feels a top-four berth is still within reach.
“It’s quite disappointing for us as we really wanted to win something this season,” he says. “We have been doing exceptionally well and playing good football, but I think things just haven’t gone our way. But as a footballer and a man, you must keep positive. Now we are looking at getting up to a better position on the log – that’s our main objective, trying to win our last games so we can find ourselves up there near the top of the table.
“If we can finish in the top four, that would be great for us – I think that’s our main target right now.”
City face Polokwane City this evening, before seeing out the season against Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu.
