Cape Town City secure R700k transfer


Cape Town City have secured the services of DR Congo international defender Nathan Idumba Fasika in a transfer believed to be in the region of $50,000 (R700,000).

The 22-year-old centre-back was one of the standout players in the 2020/21 Linafoot season with Saint-Éloi Lupopo as they finished fourth in the 16-team division.

Having featured as one of the DRC centre-backs in the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the player is said to have attracted widespread interest across the continent.

A source close to the deal has suggested to that the Citizens forked out $50,000 (R700,000) to land his signature and are expecting his arrival at the club imminently.

City have also secured 26-year-old midfielder Relebogile Mokhuoane from Free State Stars on a free transfer and will add two more young promising talents to the squad.

As previously reported by this website, Bafana Bafana keeper Darren Keet will also team up with Eric Tinkler's side after agreeing terms on a three-year contract.

City have already parted ways with defender Giannis Potouridis, goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh - while coaches Jan Olde Riekerink and Aaron Mokoena left via mutual consent.

The club are set to announce a new goalkeeping coach with the unveiling of their new signings, while Diogo Peral has been confirmed as Tinkler's assistant next season.
