Mbazo makes PSL coaching move

A new coaching appointment within the Premier Soccer League has been confirmed as more movements take place this season.

Cape Town City have appointed former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena as assistant coach to Dutchman Jan Olde Riekerink.

This follows the departure of Vasili Manousakis, who last week submitted his resignation and has reunited with Benni McCarthy at AmaZulu.

Mokoena, who last served as assistant team manager at the South African senior national team, will now be venturing into coaching for the first time since his retirement as a player back in 2013.

The 40-year-old previously served as head of scouting for top flight rookies Swallows FC, where he was appointed in September 2019.

'Mbazo' carries with him loads of international football experience, having played for German side Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax Amsterdam, Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth during his illustrious playing career.

The Citizens are currently five games unbeaten this season and occupy fourth position on the DStv Premiership log, having suffered only one defeat in their opening eight matches thus far.
