Official: Shonga lands new club

Cape Town City have announced the signing of Zambia international striker Justin Shonga from DStv Premiership rivals Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Shonga, 24, is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in Africa and has attracted the interest of Al Ahly and Zamalek in recent years but has struggled to find consistency since his arrival in South Africa.

The lanky forward scored 16 goals and registered as many assists in 77 games for Orlando Pirates in all competitions before joining TTM at the end of the 2019/20 season, but his stay in Venda has been short-lived.

City have now snapped up the highly-rated talent from the cash-strapped Premiership newcomers for the second half of the season as they continue to shore up their attack that lost Kermit Erasmus to Mamelodi Sundowns in the off-season.

"Cape Town City has reached a transfer agreement with TTM for the acquisition of Justin Shonga. The Zambian international centre-forward signs a deal until June 2024," the club statement read.

Shonga started just four league games for TTM since joining the club, scoring one goal as he now enters a new chapter of his career.
