Citizens part ways with midfielder

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has confirmed to that Allan Kateregga is no longer with the club.

Last week the chairman told this website that the club was waiting for offers for the Ugandan, who was on loan to Maritzburg United for the second half of last season.

"Kateregga is a free agent," Comitis tells

"Ja, we've parted - ways, listen we've transferred him to Maritzburg United, we had an option to take him back, which we didn't exercise at a later stage. Ja it's been like that because we had too many foreigners so weren't gonna take him back."

Comitis says the player might be heading back to his country of Uganda to play in the local league.

"I don't know he's got some few offers. I think he is going back to Uganda. In one of the big clubs there."

The midfielder was part of Uganda’s squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt recently.

In a social media post, Kateregga said farewell to City: "Thank you Cape Town City for the opportunity. I would never thank you enough. I wish the club the very best for the future."
