Pretoria Callies technical staff and players have sensationally refused to return to training over unpaid salaries.

According to a source close to the club, the GladAfrica Championship outfit has been struggling in recent times with financial difficulties.

"Pretoria Callies have not yet paid their players and the technical team," A source informs KickOff.

"The club's coffers are empty and it's been going on for some time now.

"They were supposed to report back to training on the 6th of January, but the players refused."

Furious players have reportedly complained to management that they cannot afford to return to training after not being paid over the December festive period.

"The club told them it's fine and they would get paid their outstanding salaries on the 10th when they re-open, but on the 10th they delayed it again to the 17th.

"Now yesterday the club again sent everyone messages saying they plan to re-open on the 2nd of February.

"As for the technical team, it's been a period of three months of working without getting paid their salaries.

"In that three months some players were paid while some were not, there are those who were not getting their full salaries though, but in December no one was paid.

"Because the club is anticipating players might continue with their stay-away when the league resumes, they are holding open trials, in case the players don't return over money issues.

"The chairman owned a security company but it seems things are no longer the same with his business, which is struggling.

"Many have tried to buy the team from him but he is refusing to sell, while at one stage the team was for sale, but no one knows what happened after that."
