Brockie brace sends SSU sixth

The win sees SuperSport finish in sixth place on the table with 41 points while Polokwane finished in 12th place with 34 points.

The home side started the better of the two teams with the first effort on goal coming in the second minute, but Raymond Monama curled his 24-yard free-kick inches wide the SuperSport goal.

Six minutes later Polokwane were on the attack again when Dodam Dogere unleashed a powerful shot from long range, but saw his effort sail just over the crossbar.

SuperSport took control of the game after that and managed their first real effort on goal in the 23rd minute when Jeremy Brockie tested the palms of the Polokwane goalkeeper Dino Visser from range, but he was up to the challenge.

In the 39th minute Dino Visser was called into action again, this time denying David Mathebula from the edge of the box.

A minute later SuperSport did take the lead when Brockie superbly curled home a shot from just inside the box to take the lead going into the break, 1-0.

Polokwane came out firing in the second half and came close to finding an equaliser five minutes after the restart when Galabgwe Moyana unleashed a powerful shot on goal, but saw his effort well-saved by Williams.

The home side persisted, though, and did level matters in the 67th minute when Dodam Dogere found the back of the net with a clinical strike from just inside the box, 1-1.

Polokwane’s joy, however, was short-lived as SuperSport re-took the lead ten minutes later after Brockie turned home a pass from Kingston Nkhatha, 2-1.

Polokwane tried to find their way back into the match, but Supersport defended stoutly to hold on for the win.
