Italian Solinas and ex-Bafana Bafana star Carnell were hired by the club in late December after Ernst Middendorp resigned from the Stars hotseat to take charge of Maritzburg United.
Solinas, who has coached Algerian side ES Setif among other teams in Africa, will oversee his first Absa Premiership game against Golden Arrows at Goble Park on Saturday.
“The sudden manner of the previous coach’s departure left the club in the lurch,” Carnell told the club's website. “We have been brought in to steady the ship and restore stability. We fully understand the magnitude of the job at hand. It is a challenge we are relishing.
“Because of the situation we inherited here, it was important to come in and hit the ground running straightway – and we have done exactly that. Once the introductory formalities were out of the way we got down to business on the training ground. Work started in earnest on 2 January and we are hoping the effort we have been putting in translates into a matching performance when we play our first match on Saturday.”
The former University of Johannesburg trainer added: “The coach has been impressed by the players’ attitude and energy levels in training.
“Obviously this is a transitional period and there is a fair amount of adjustment by all parties. A new coach has come in and looking to stamp his mark on the squad. That is normal and to be expected. It’s early days, but so far the players have been magnificent, responding well to the coach’s methods and philosophy.”
