Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained why he is keeping one of his foreign players in the team, despite no action.

A long-term injury sidelined Bangaly Soumahoro last season and he did not make a single domestic appearance, though he came on as a substitute in Sundowns’ 1-0 defeat to Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals away from home.

The big Ivorian continues to train with the club, and Mosimane sees him as a player he can use in the CAF Champions League if ever he is needed.

“We still have five spaces for December. We will always do that, we keep the places. Even last year we didn’t register him earlier, we registered him after. There are guys we might register all, but it’s normal. Ask Al Ahly, ask Zamalek. You can’t put 30 players now and then in December five players leave and then you are short. So there’s still another registration period coming up,” Mosimane said when asked about Bangaly.

“We registered him for CAF,” the coach added.
