Wits send eight MDC stars to first team

Bidvest Wits have promoted eight youngsters to the first-team squad ahead of the PSL restart including promising Amajita starlet Keenan Phillips.

Wits are taking on Mamelodi Sundowns in the second Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday at 19h00 at Orlando Stadium.

Baroka FC recently revealed they are eyeing three Wits youngsters from their table-topping MDC side as well as one senior star to sign for next season.

Several Wits players have already signed deals with other clubs for next season and it appears more could be put in the shop window in August.

The Students are still in with mathematical chance of winning the Absa Premiership this season and will play nine matches in 25 days, starting with Kaizer Chiefs at Orlando Stadium on August 12.

Coach Gavin Hunt has thus promoted eight players to his squad to assist in the final few weeks of the history of Wits.

Those players are Phillips, Lisakhanya Mlonyeni, Mpho Mathebula, Cuwen Prince, Kabelo Makola, Janovane September, Deon Horn and Malik Mashinini.

The club has been sold to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila for next season and will relocate to Limpopo.
