KickOff.com has been informed exactly why Bidvest Wits winger Elias Pelembe is yet to report for training.
The 36-year-old has not been present since teams were given the green light to resume training last month ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 domestic season.
Wits CEO Jonathan Schloss now reveals the winger is stuck in Mozambique and can only return once the South African borders are opened again.
"Ja, he is [still a Wits player], he's just stuck in Mozambique," Schloss tells KickOff.com after being quizzed abut his whereabouts and contract situation.
"So immediately when he crosses the border, he will come. I can't do it without him [renew Pelembe's contract]."
Schloss confirms the Mozambican winger has agreed to stay with the club at least until the remaining games are completed, after his initial deal expired last month.
"Yes, that is now our purpose but it depends when he comes back. If he comes back and we are already two games left, then no. But if he comes back before we go to the bubble and he's fit, it's a different story," Schloss explains.
"He will come back when he comes back and we'll always be open for it. Pelembe's been with us for years."
Schloss indicates the club's hands are tied as far as getting the player back to Braamfontein in concerned.
"Can you ask the government when are they going to open their borders? And when you get the answer tell me what the answer is please," he adds.
"Imagine if he comes and infects people, then they are going to say 'what did I do'. So I mean we have no say over that, it's a government issue and they won't bend the rules for a footballer who has gone home."
