Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has explained why it's important for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to be successful for South African football.
The league leaders and a resurgent Pirates side will face off at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a clash that could prove pivotal in the Absa Premiership title race.
Since losing to Chiefs in November, the Buccanneers have gone on a 10-game unbeaten run and now only trail Amakhosi by six points albeit having played one game more.
And with Sundowns in second place, two points ahead of Josef Zinnbauer's men, McCarthy admits the performances of the Soweto giants have given life to South African football once more.

"Every South African fan is happy deep down when Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are doing well," McCarthy tells KickOff.com.
"Matches are entertaining, people come to the stadiums because the football becomes relevant again, it's on the up.
"It's always important for us seeing lots of fans at football stadiums, largely due to Pirates and Chiefs doing well so I'm extremely excited and happy to see that the two are back, it makes the league interesting.
"Sundowns won't just run away with the league anymore as they did in the past so now we have a strong Chiefs and a strong Pirates so there's far more competition for Sundowns.
"That's the interesting part and we want the league to go down to the wire as neutrals."
Chiefs and Pirates will face off on Saturday afternoon at the iconic 94 736-seater stadium at 15h00 (GMT+2).
