McCarthy: This is becoming ridiculous

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy expressed frustration that his side once again failed to convert their dominance into a win after the 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs.

Usuthu had 68 percent of the possession and had Chiefs pinned back in their own half for the majority of the game but were guilty of poor execution in the final third although they did have some good chances.

McCarthy's side have drawn seven of their 12 matches this season - playing to more draws than any other side in the DStv Premiership and McCarthy said it is 'becoming ridiculous' and that his side are going to become the 'new Swallows', who drew 20 of their 3-0 games last season.

"Very frustrating and there's not really much you can do," the Usuthu tactician told SuperSport TV.

"The fact you don't lose the game and you don't go home having an 'L', but come on this is becoming ridiculous. I said in the pre-match about respecting the spaces which we do very well, we manage the game But we've got absolutely nothing. We don't look like a team that's gonna create and win the game because we also as passive and then we concede the softest goals and now you chasing the game.

"And still they go one man down and the players are playing like they are 3-4 up. It's becoming very frustrating for me. But I commend the team. Two games in a row you come from behind. There's not much I can do because you do what you do on the training ground and then you expect okay the players now are going to show something and step up. But then you get these dismal performances.

"Stellenbosch the same, you throw away three points. Today Chiefs, because it was our game to lose and then you go a man up, and we looked like we were nowhere and create absolutely nothing. Fortunately enough we ended up getting a goal so yeah you take a point and what more can you do.

"You just have to keep working and working and hopefully the club decides that okay maybe here the team can do with a bit of a reshuffle because we need new faces in the team. Because this way we're gonna keep having these performances these kind of games and we gona keep picking up one point, one point one point and ja then we gonna become the new Swallows.

"Jules, honestly, you know this is not my style but I genuinely don't have energy because it's two games on the road and people look at it and say I don't understand why he's behaving the way he does because you don't end up losing the game but it's people that don't understand football. If you understand football and you work with these guys everyday and then you see what they give you on matchday then how can I be satisfied with getting a point from games that we should be winning.

"You know come end of the season then you start thinking oh the Stellenbosch, oh the Chiefs game, oh this game, that game and once it's gone it's gone. So I'm at the moment where this is the opportunity to take this because we might not know what will happen in the second round. We go into CAF and God help us come that time if this is the dismal performance we give now and that's without playing in CAF competitions where you have travel. So ja, God help us when it comes to next season, in the new year."
