Benni McCarthy has warned people not to rule out both Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United for the league title this season.
Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have emerged as front-runners in the race for the league championship this season.
SuperSport might have a difficult time breaking back into the mix but Wits can still move up to third place if they win their two games in hand.
McCarthy believes the Absa Premiership is far from over compared to the English Premier League, where Liverpool are running away with the title with 11 more games to be played.
"The PSL is exciting. It's heating up. Definitely far more interesting than the Premier League because the Premier League is a one-horse race," said McCarthy.
"Here people might count Wits and SuperSport out of it but I still think teams will run each other down. Chiefs will drop points, Pirates will drop points and Sundowns might still drop points, especially with the Champions League coming up.
"The focus will shift at some point and will open the door for SuperSport and Wits. But it's interesting, five teams still in it.
"But if we are honestly speaking, myself I will look at it, if I am Pirates, if I am Sundowns, I still have a hell of a chance to win it."
Meanwhile, McCarthy could not give a timeframe for when he will return to football after parting ways with Cape Town City last year.
"I will be back to football, that's for sure because that's who I am and that's what I am about. That's what I am going to do. When, that's a question for another day."
