McCarthy identifies new stars at Usuthu

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy has been impressed with two players in his team who could add real value to the team going forward.

McCarthy has another weapon in his arsenal after new signing Zukile Kewuti was unleashed against Swallows FC, with McCarthy expressing his content with his debut.

Usuthu could not stop the high-flying Birds on Sunday but managed to get a point in a goalless draw, and McCarthy focused on the positives after the match.

In particular, the debut performance of his new signing Kewuti showed a glimpse of the potential he can bring to the club going forward.

"I'm happy with performance of Zukile, coming to a team that is on form and having a good run, you must remember that he was not playing for a couple of games at Cape Town City," McCarthy said.

"He was always going to run out of legs in the last minutes of the game but in the midfield we controlled it and Swallows couldn't do anything to us. So I was happy with his debut, I know what he can do and he will get better with more games."

McCarthy was also impressed by former Golden Arrows defender Samkelo Magwazela, who came on as a substitute and calmed things down as the Dube Birds were starting to threaten.

Magwazela, who has been used as a sub ever since he arrived at the beginning of the season, was praised for managing to stabilise the defence and for allowing his wing-backs to help out in attack.

"Samkelo Magwazela, oh just a breath of fresh air, a young man with so much bravery, he deals with any situation very well," McCarthy added.

"And when he came in, that's when we became more strong as he allowed [Mbongeni] Gumede to move up front, because the physicality they brought made it hard for [Kgaogelo] Sekgota to be free like he was in the first half."
