Benni: The gods were with us!

Benni McCarthy has claimed the "gods were on AmaZulu's side" after Usuthu snatched victory over TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday.

Last season's DStv Premiership runners-up extended their unbeaten run to six matches across all competitions after recording a narrow 1-0 win over TS Galaxy, courtesy of a second-half goal from Luvuyo Memela.

Despite coming away with the win, McCarthy believed his side were second best on the night and believed things could have been very different had fortune not been on their side.

"I think today we were exceptionally fortunate," the former Bafana Bafana star said following the match. "We were up against a very good and organised TS Galaxy team and you can clearly see, from what coach Sead Ramović has brought.

"It's clear to see in which direction the club is moving in and it's good to see because I think even the players, they were comfortable on the ball, very sure of themselves and they made it very difficult for us.

"But that made it nicer to play because both teams didn't really sit back. Both teams tried to play some football and that made the game very open so it was very enjoyable to play, but for my team, being second best to everything.

"We were off the pace and I know we had some difficulties travelling and adjusting after playing in the Champions League but that still shouldn't be a problem for us because we have enough time to recover and get back into games.

"So, yeah, today the gods really were with us because we certainly did not deserve three points but, you know what, you can't be too unhappy when things go your way so I'll take it gladly but it was a game where it would probably have been very fair if it ended 1-1 or if we had shared the spoils.

"I would have been exceptionally happy because I knew my team wasn't at their best and we were outplayed by a far better team today, so now all we can do is accept that that that's football.

"Sometimes you play fantastic football and you don't get the results you want, and sometimes you play very bad and you come away with something."
