Baxter rules Chiefs out as title challengers

Premiership

A disgruntled Stuart Baxter has ruled out Kaizer Chiefs as title challengers after failing to move up the DStv Premiership standings after being held to a draw by AmaZulu.

Bongi Ntuli scored a late equaliser in the second half for AmaZulu in the 76th minute after Chiefs took the lead through a Keagan Buchanan own goal.

Speaking after the final whistle, a disappointed Baxter ruled out any talk of his side as being genuine title contenders.

"I think it’s different strokes for different folks, some coaches may say the title is what we’re looking for.

"I was taught by a very wise guy who taught me how to use a samurai sword, don’t have your eyes on the destination, have your eyes on the pathway.

"Otherwise if you've got just one eye on your destination you’re only using half your strength in the here and the now.

"So my preference is to say we want performances, we want this win and I don’t look too far in the future.

"But I do that obviously for myself, I've got my own little calculations.

"But at this moment in time I don’t players talking about winning the league after a performance like tonight is not realistic.

"You’ve got to improve that performance before you start saying we have a chance to win the league.

"We threw away a chance tonight to put ourselves back into the race seriously, hopefully, we won't do that again when the chance arises."
