Baxter outlines new Manyama role

Head coach Stuart Baxter has outlined a possible new role for attacker Lebogang Manyama to inspire the Soweto giants to a potential DStv Premiership title challenge.

Manyama is searching for match-fitness after recently returning from injury to hand Baxter a much-needed boost in his attacking options.

Speaking ahead of a league clash against new boys Royal AM on Saturday, Baxter outlined that the Bafana Bafana international could fill a number of attacking roles for his side.

"Lebo Manyama is back and he is up for selection, but you can't call him 100% fit," Baxter said.

"Without working with him in that role as an out-and-out striker I don't know if it's a masterstroke or an exercise in futility.

"I can't really confirm that.

"Lebo has everything to compete on many fronts, he can be one of the players in the pockets. He can serve as a wider player or a false nine.

"He could be a midfield player, so he can help us in a lot of ways.

"He's a bit like Bernard Parker who can play in a few positions. So I am looking forward to getting Lebo back.

"I think that Khama can play as our false nine, and cut in from the sides. We actually played against the champions of Botswana the other day in a friendly and Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo) played in that false nine and was absolutely spot on.

"Creating spaces for people to tuck in behind him and get on the ball and arriving in the box a little bit later, so that position could be one of the roles."

Kick-off is at 17:00.
