Chiefs sent a statement under new coach Giovanni Solinas in the rout of Stars at FNB Stadium.
"Hey, they performed good football there and it left us worrying," Chawapiwa tells KickOff.com.
"Because what we were expecting and what we saw that day it's totally different. They really displayed good football you know, so they are not opponents to underrate. It's a big team, they have quality players, players who can combine, players who are hungry to score. So it's gonna be difficult now because now they have got confidence."
The 26-year-old Zimbabwean, who in recent weeks was heavily linked with a move to the Naturena-based side, believes he will need to perform well against Amakhosi to reiterate his dedication to Bakgaga.
"I just have to put that aside [being linked with Chiefs] and just focus on the team that I'm playing for you know and hope to do well. Because if I put that in mind I will put myself under pressure. I won't be able to perform you know, so I just have to just go there and work for Baroka because they wanna see ... Because they know I was linked with Kaizer Chiefs, so they wanna see how am I going to perform, how I am going to take it. So to me it's just something that is giving me pressure now you know, so I have to do more than what I was doing before now.
"We just have to continue with the good form and go and win the match. It's always difficult to play against Kaizer Chiefs you know, it's a big team. They always have a winning mentality and they are more experienced than us. So it's always difficult but I hope we will do better than we did last time.
"Last time we didn't know how to manage the game. We scored early, we let them come back, we let them go and get the winning goal. So I think we just need to be more focused to maintain it."
Chawapiwa says beating a difficult side like Cape Town City 2-1 in their last Absa Premiership game was important as they didn't want to play Chiefs on the back of a loss.
"I think it was a motivation so that when we get into the Kaizer Chiefs game we won't have pressure. You know you can't lose two games consecutively, then you are expecting to play a big team. I think now we don't have pressure now. We will just accept whatever we gonna get, because at least we already have three points in the bag. So if we go for a draw it's not a problem."
Kick-off is at 19h30.
