Baroka FC have snapped up 18-year-old former Orlando Pirates prodigy Augustine Mahlonoko on a three-year deal.

In what was seen as a surprise move by many, Pirates recently parted ways with the highly rated youngster.

The Sebokeng-born midfielder made history in 2018 when he debuted for The Buccaneers just aged 16 years and 11 months but was sent to the club's feeder team Pele Pele FC in the ABC Motsepe League last year.

Mahlonoko was once voted into the top 60 young talents in world football and was meant to attend trials at Atletico Madrid this year before the coronavirus hit.

Bakgaga chairman Khurishi Mphahlele sounded very excited when he broke the news to KickOff.com this morning.

"Do you know this boy Mahlonoko? He was playing for Pirates. Ya, we've signed that young boy," Mphahlele confirms.

"It happened about three weeks back. We signed him for two seasons with one-year option. That's a gem, that one is a gem.

"We will see what he is going to do for us next year. He gave us a lot of problems in the MDC this boy. And I'm sure he played three, four games in the Pirates senior team.

"He was about 16 years when he was promoted to the senior team, so he's very intelligent. We loved him so much."

Mahlonoko made his Pirates debut even earlier than several players who went on to become club legends, see below!

Mphahlele also confirmed that head coach Dylan Kerr was staying with the club.

"Ya, he is staying. Mr 'I know my job' is staying," the chairman adds. "I want him to build a good team. Remember, his contract is three years. Ya his job is safe."
