Baroka made history two months ago when they lifted the cup in Port Elizabeth, becoming the first side from Limpopo to win a major knockout competition in the PSL, but things have not gone so well for Bakgaga since then.
They’ve managed to register just one victory since then in seven matches, a major concern for Nyirenda who has to find a way to get victories for the 13th-placed side.
“The motivation is there, but I think there’s some complacency in some of the players. That is animal coach will fight against in players. If you have that creeping in, then you just have to do everything you can do to get out of it,” Nyirenda said after their 1-1 draw with Chippa United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Baroka have not kept a clean sheet in all their matches in 2019, which is another concern for Nyirenda.
“The concern is that we are giving [away goals]. If we are conceding, then I’d say the [opposition] teams deserve it, but we are just giving away the goals.”
Against the Chilli Boys on Sunday, Baroka opened the scoring in the second half but an own goal a minute later saw them dropping two points at home.
“Painful draw. We gave away two points, which were already in our pocket and it pains a lot to the coach. We played well, defended well, attacked well, the build-up was good and everyone was comfortable on the ball. We created chances, but we could not put them through. We are just giving away goals. I think there’s a lot that needs to be done.”
