A message has been sent to log leaders Kaizer Chiefs and other Absa Premiership title hopefuls as Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda insisted they remain in the title race this season.
Baroka are gunning for their maiden premier division championship after they were crowned first division champions some three years ago.
Nyirenda, a former Chiefs striker in the early 1990s, is adamant they remain candidates for the prize in the 2019/20 season despite sitting in 11th position and trailing Amakhosi by eight points after seven games.
“I think we are still in it and very much alive to it, and we are not going to give it away. This is a marathon and you may start it very well but at the end of the day some things can happen,” said Nyirenda after their 1-0 defeat to Chiefs on Saturday.
“There are teams that are playing – they score three goals, but it ends 3-3, while some games are going to 4-3.
“I think if we put our acts together with the way we’re playing, we can be scoring more than four goals in one game, so we are going to work on it.
“And I think it just has to come right quickly, before it is too late. We have given away about 10 points now out the possible 18, which is not good for us.
“So, we need to do the catch-up game and fight for the remaining games we have in the first round and see where we end up.”
