Tau set for Belgian top flight move

Bafana Bafana star striker Percy Tau is set for a return to Belgium, but this time to one of the top flight clubs, according to reports.

Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad have reported that Tau is set to join Club Brugge, who ended runners-up in the Jupiler Pro League behind Genk last season.

The 25-year-old is frozen out at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion due to his ineligibility for a work permit and spent last season on loan at second division club Union Saint-Glloise, where he played a starring role.

He went on to win the Proximus Player of the Season award after having managed 13 goals and an equal number of assists but was unfortunate not to help the club to promotion.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has just completed the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Bafana were edged by Nigeria in the quarterfinal, and it would seem that his future is almost certain.

According to the report, “negotiations are ongoing, but sources close to the player say that [the move] is as good as done. He is loaned for a year, possibly with an option [to purchase] but that is not yet certain.”

Tau has been linked to several clubs in recent times, including Ligue 1 side Amiens, where countryman Bongani Zungu is currently plying his trade, after former Union coach Luka Elsner made the switch last month.
