Zambian star pushing for Pirates start


Orlando Pirates could give Zambian midfielder Austin Muwowo a run when they take on Baroka in the league match in Polokwane on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has made only one appearance in Pirates colours this season since arriving from Zambia.

Despite winning the Footballer of the Season award in his native country, the Bucs midfielder has failed to hit the ground running in the PSL, spending most of his time in the stands.

Muwowo scored during a friendly match against JDR Stars in Johannesburg this week and according to sources close to the club, the Zambia international has raised his hand for team selection this weekend.

"The boy has been doing well at training. The only problem is the games were coming thick and fast where the technical team has been believing in certain combinations," the source tells

"The player is back in contention for team selection this weekend."

Rhulani Mokwena's side are 15 points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs after 12 matches and, after the game against Bakgaga, will face Black Leopards on 21 December in their final league game of a disappointing 2019.
