Mamelodi Sundowns will have to turn their attention elsewhere after the club was said to have been rejected by one of their prominent transfer targets.
Sundowns have long since been interested in the services of SuperSport United midfielder Aubrey Modiba but the player has since rejected a move to the reigning league champions.
Modiba, who has risen through the ranks of the Nedbank Ke Yona team to being a key figure with SuperSport, has reportedly been on the radar of The Brazilians for the past two seasons but will instead commit his future to his current employers.
"Aubrey Modiba is staying and will be one of the [contract] extensions we announce next week, so there's nothing to report on him," confirmed Matsatsantsa CEO Stan Matthews on Friday.
"Obviously, you'll ask me about interest from here and interest from there – yes, there was interest from Sundowns, and we did have discussions with Sundowns; the player also had discussions with Sundowns, and the net result was that we and he declined their offer.
"So, there is no more talk of Aubrey Modiba going to Sundowns, he has committed himself to an extended contract and he will be with us for another four-and-a-half years."
There had also been earlier talk of Sundowns wanting to send Lucky Mohomi in the opposite direction in a bargaining agreement, with Matthews further confirming no movement for the midfielder.
"Lucky Mohomi is not coming to SuperSport United," he stated upon being quizzed about the former Free State Stars workhorse.
