De Jong's Usuthu role revealed

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson has shared his thoughts on the club's new signings and their opening match against Bidvest Wits.

Usuthu have not made too many changes for the new season, with their notable signings being Lehlonoholo Majoro and Andre De Jong.

The coach has given his thoughts on the new additions and reveals which position he believes New Zealander De Jong will excel in.

"Majoro and De Jong have settled very well and we know they understand the importance of rocking the Ingonyama jersey, we will see as time goes on," Johnson said.

"Andre is definitely a number 10. When I look at him now the league he comes from allowed him to play as a number nine, but here in the PSL he will be good as a second striker. Maybe one match he can play as a targetman."

Johnson could not really say whether he was done in the transfer market as the window is still open until the end of August.

"Football is round, you never know what can happen. The window periods ends in September so anything can still happen, so I can't say yes or no [on possible new signings]."

Usuthu will host the Students at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday (20h15), where they were almost untouchable last season as they boasted an impressive records against the top six teams, losing only to Kaizer Chiefs.

Johnson says it will not be easy because Wits usually start the season with a very high spirit.

"We know that Gavin Hunt normally starts off with a bang, his Bafana Bafana players will probably be back and it won't be easy," he added.

"And also they were not league challengers for nothing and we were not relegation threats for nothing either, so we've got to pull up our socks and keep the fight at King Zwelithini."
