Chiefs end 7-match winless run

Kaizer Chiefs bagged their second DStv Premiership win of the season as they beat AmaZulu 1-0 at Kings Park Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Chiefs resgitered their first victory in eight league matches as Samir Nurkovic bagged the all-important goal in his first start of the season.

Thembela Sikhakhane was fortunate to remain on the pitch after a horrendous 2nd-minute tackle that saw his studs clattered into the back of Happy Mashiane's calf.

It was the hosts who got the first real opportunity through Augustine Mulenga, who failed to find the target in the 7th minute with his left-footed shot that beat Akpeyi as well as the far-post.

Instead it was Nurkovic who put Chiefs ahead in 11th minute after Zuma's cross was erroneously played into the Serbian's path and he slotted beyond Veli Mothwa with aplomb.

Tapelo Xoki had a chance to get the leveller in the 63rd minute as he rose highest to get his head on a tantalising free-kick from Sithebe, but the effort was inches wide of the target.

Nurkovic could have had his brace on the 67th minute but his powerful header was saved by a well-positioned Mothwa.

AmaZulu finally had their first effort on target in the 77th minute when substitute Lehlohonolo Majoro unleashed a snapshot from the edge of the 18-yard area but it was comfortably picked up by Akpeyi.

Both sides enjoyed a share of opportunities at the death but neither were able to capitalise, as Amakhosi moved to 10 points from 10 matches.
