AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has revealed the club's plans in the transfer market ahead of what is expected to be a busy season.
Usuthu finished as the second-best team in the DStv Premiership last season, finishing 13 points behind 11-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Benni McCarthy will subsequently lead his charges into the 2021/22 CAF Champions League and is expected to bring in some serious quality to bolster their squad.
A number of big names, such as former PSL golden boot winner Mwape Musonda and ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase have been linked to the club.
"Definitely, we are working not only on strengthening the squad but also creating requisite balance, given the demands of the coming season," Usuthu president Sandile Zungu tells KickOff.com.
"We will be revealing the players that we've signed but also talk about players that we've released. That will be on the 5th of August – we will make all the plans public.
"We can't reveal [names] right now. We've got a couple that we have signed from outside, and we've got a couple that we have promoted from the junior ranks, and also those that have returned from loan. So, I think we're talking about 10 players."
Zungu further states that plans and expectations for the coming season have yet to be ironed out, with McCarthy having returned from Scotland just this week.
"We've got a very, very good squad that will be competing locally in the DStv [Premiership], as well as in the CAF Champions League," he says.
"I have not had an engagement with my technical team, Benni just got back into the country, so I'm still going to sit down with them to plan on all levels.
"I've seen other teams pretty much having a core team that features in all the competitions and having a couple of guys that are dominant more in the local competitions, while others on the continent. We will see.
"At the same time, we don't want an unmanageable and worthless squad. But I can only talk with greater certainty on the 5th of August, when we reveal our players, when we talk about our sponsors, when we talk about our plans for the continent and when we unveil our App and so on."
