AmaZulu have made a surprise signing on the eve of the Premier Soccer League season, to prepare for the next campaign.
The club announced the signing of New Zealand foward Andre de Jong, to add their striking force for the 2019/20 season.
Earlier this month the general manager of the club Lunga Sokhela did say they will beef up the squad. AmaZulu have been looking for someone to replace Emiliano Tade and they brought in De Jong to support Bongi Ntuli upfront.
"We are looking at adding a new striker to work with Ntuli. We will make announcements about movements of players," Sokhela said.
The 22-year-old De Jong joins Usuthu from New Zealand top flight side Eastern Surburbs FC. He has signed a three-year deal and will be expected to fill the void left by Tade, who joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January.
According to the club, De Jong impressed Cavin Johnson and his technical team while on trial.
"He is an exciting striker with the ability go create and score goals. We are happy to have him join the Usuthu family."
De Jong has also expressed his excitement and is looking forward to join his new teammates.
