AmaZulu excited to renew Pirates rivalry

Club chairman Sandile Zungu says AmaZulu are excited at the chance to renew their rivalry with Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup.

Usuthu will face the Buccaneers in the last 32 of the cup competition in what promises to be another scintillating contest.

The last occasion the KwaZulu-Natal club lifted silverware was 30 years ago when beating Kaizer Chiefs in the 1992 Coca Cola Cup Final.

"None of these draws are favourable, remember in the previous Nedbank Cup, we lost against a team which was then subsequently relegated," Zungu tells KickOff.

"We beat Arrows which was a formidable opponent, we beat them away from home, and then we proceeded to lose against Black Leopards.

"So we like these challenges against the big teams, so we at AmaZulu are really excited with the draw because Pirates are the only team in the DStv Premier Soccer League we have not beaten since the Zungu family came on board.

"We have beaten all the other teams, Pirates is the only team we have not beaten.

"They have beaten us twice and we drew against them twice, so it's a nice challenge to play them in the Nedbank Cup away from home.

"We'll take it as such, we are big boys they are big boys, we are both playing in CAF, us in the Champions League and they are in the Confederations Cup, so we love playing against Orlando Pirates.

"And for me playing against my erstwhile team, gives me that added excitement.

"It's not a draw that we are crying about, we actually like those challenges.

"When we start winning cups we will make it fashionable, it will be what we've been waiting for, all these years."
