Chippa, AmaZulu share the spoils

Usuthu started the match on the back foot as their striker Bongi Ntuli was shown a red card in the fifth minute, which left the Durban side fighting with ten men.

In the 17th minute Bornwell Mwape had a chance to give Usuthu the lead but his shot went wide.

Roscoe Pietersen then also tried to open the scoring for the visiting team but Mbongeni Mzimela made a good save to deny the defender.

Minutes later it was Mbulelo Mabizela who opened the scoring for AmaZulu as he netted a beautiful header from a free kick, that was supplied by Sifiso Hlanti in the 34th minute.

Chippa United substitute Siyabulela Shai, who replaced Siyavonga Zulu as early as the 21st minute, made sure that his presence was felt when, in the 37 minute, he tested Murambadoro.

In the additional time of the first half, Chippa finally found their equalizer as pressure contained AmaZulu and saw Pietersen scoring an unfortunate own goal- his second of the seaon.

In the 62nd minute it was Thwala and Shai who combined well to give AmaZulu a hard time at the back.

Shai came close to registering his name on the score sheet but his strike was again denied by Murambadoro.

In the last ten minutes of the match Chippa got another chance, through a set piece that was taken by Mbenyane, when the ball fell for Shai but ended going to waste again.

Despite all this, Chippa United continued to search for a goal late on but Usuthu were reluctant to allow them to break through as both teams ended sharing a point each.
